Sitting In Paradise chronicles Kamy Bruder's thoughts and reflections on his own spirituality. Born and raised in France, Kamy started racing motorcycles at age eleven, and turned into a serious motocross contender shortly thereafter. Traveling across Europe with his family for races gave him both a security in his family center as well as a fierce independence that enabled him to move to America in his teens to race here and attend school in the States. His observations as an athlete and a curious young man inform Sitting In Paradise and give it a sensibility well beyond the physical age of its author.
Bruder holds as his tenets the idea of personal freedom, independence from the strictures of societal conformity, and the formation of the self from one’s own ideas rather than those of one’s peers. While embracing the coming together of friends and loved ones, Kamy strongly holds to the principle of self-determination and explores it at length in Sitting In Paradise. His essays cover topics from family and the benefit he has gained from his warm, supportive clan, to a love denied, the impact of a philosopher’s words from the past on his present, and the effect that a writer’s environment has on his work.
